I was born and raised in the town of Nieuwegein in the Netherlands. Ever since I was a child, I dreamt of moving to an English-speaking country, then finally in 2010 I followed that dream and moved to London.
At an early age I noticed my father working on his old 286 computer and wanted to know more about it. It all started off with basic MS-DOS skills and playing games. It wasn't until my teens I realised it would be exciting to try get more out of computers; get them to do my bidding (for world domination)! Back in high school we had to use TI-83 graphical calculators in mathematics class. I opened up the manual as soon as I got mine and browsed through the programming section. This is where my fondness for programming started. At the young age of 14 I would be consumed by creating software for the little machine. I later expanded my set of skills towards the web, learning HTML, CSS and Javascript at first and eventually moving to PHP and SQL. During my foundation degree course in application development after high school I explored the possibilities of Microsoft's .NET framework and learned some C#. As the final project of my course I worked on a fairly large C# project for a major construction company in the Netherlands in the form of an internship. In my time there I really had the opportunity to grasp the professional side of programming.
I used to do a lot of programming in my spare time, but as of late this has been severely minimised. It's still nice to put together little programs now and then, but I have chosen this hobby of mine as my profession now. I don't believe it's healthy for a person to do the same thing 24/7. You can read more about my personal life at the glorious spare time section.
